Great Tim Ferris Parody
The combo with the npr sature is pitch perfect. Like all those facejackers are npr can’t wait to turn their jobs into 14 second ones. merlin: [***Considering Some Things* - Jim Fairness and “The 14-Second Work Year”**](http://tinyurl.com/14SWYear) *The 14-Second Work Year* changed the way I think about pretty much everything. Nice to hear the author expand on some of the...

What's lacking in most snark humour →
I’m a lover of paradox. It feels much richer and truthful to me than most else. And funnier. There’s some heart to it. Wilde was a genius paradox giver: I can resist anything but temptation. I find a lot of the comedy out there now tiring. And Frank Chimero has articulated the why beautifully. Of course its just a lot of fine, rational reasoning being applied to jokes. I’ve...

Weight reduction and Penis Enlargement
I was recently part of a mediabistro panel called Creating OnlineEntertainment.Afterword, a woman approached me and Dina Kaplan (above right) COO of Blip.tv She said, “I’m a hypnotist. I do weight reduction and penis enlargement.”“You’re walking spam,” I replied. Posted via email from heathergold’s posterous | Comment »

The web grows up. Social passes data.
I was searching for good panels at SXSWi 10 and discovered that 1,118 of the 2,000 proposed panels have the word “social” in them. That was some heavily re-tweeted shit. I couldn’t fit into 140 characters why I think this means or matters or why so many people now care about the web as something that is social. (My pact with my serotonin producers explains my optimism in the...

anti-gay shooting of teens in Israel
Teens questioning their sexuality in a small room attacked with machine guns in Israel. Here is this response.Beautiful to see pain and violence responded to with openness and togetherness. It is what is powerful enough to overcome violence and fear. Come out. Everyone. Posted via email from heathergold’s posterous | Comment »

Frederick Douglass on Power
If there is no struggle  There is no progress  Those who profess to favor freedom  And yet depreciate agitation Are men who want crops  Without plowing up the ground They want rain without thunder and lightning They want the ocean without the awful roar of its many watersPower concedes nothing without a demand It never did and it never will.-Frederick Douglass, 1857 Posted via email from...

The Dish (sullivan readers) speculate on romance.
I speculate on queer vs straight differences in approaches to dating in this interesting Dish (Andrew Sullivan’s blog) post on dating and deception. I think you can “lie” to get  (unethical or mutual projection fantasy) sex, but not romance. Posted via email from heathergold’s posterous | Comment »

photo by Matthew Kim I just got back from Toronto. It was my first summer visit there since the summers when I came out there..at 19 and 20. It’s been a long time.  A lot has changed. There are lots of new museums and buildings and lofts but as I strolled down Queen Street West, where I used to hang out back when it was far grittier, I noticed that Pages bookstore is just about to close....

Great post on The Stimulist about why you shouldn’t go to law school: http://thestimulist.com/dont-go-to-law-school/ This would have been a comment there if I could have gotten past some tech issues with the site) I have a law degree. It’s the one thing I keep in my closet. There is really only one main good reason to go to law school and that’s because you really really want to...
